Workers under Kilusang Mayo Uno in Southern Mindanao blasted the AFP for harassment of trade union leaders in a picket at the Eastern Mindanao Command today. This protest action came after successive incidents of harassment of trade union leaders in Compostela Valley.
State-sponsored trade union repression in Southern Mindanao became the subject of an International Labour Organisation (ILO) High-Level Mission in 2009. The military has been documented to encroach on union activities and certification elections and harassing trade union leaders and surveilling them in their homes and workplaces.
Workers expressed support for their beleaguered colleagues, asserted their legitimacy as unions and called the AFP violator of their right to organize and freedom of association.
Stop militarizing our trade unions!
Stop trade union repression!
Junk Oplan Bayanihan!
